The Planning Department is responsible for the administration or the zoning and subdivision regulations. It assists the Jasper Planning and Zoning Commission and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. The department acts as a liaison between the municipal government and other state and federal departments and agencies.
Site plans are approved by the department prior to the issuance of building permits by the office of the Building Inspector. The Director of the Planning Department is responsible for the administration of the Flood Zone Regulations.
Development Procedure:
All proposed commercial, industrial, institutional, and multi-family residential development requires the submittal of a site plan. The plan is reviewed by the Planning Department staff and the City Engineer for compliance with the Zoning Regulations. Upon satisfactory review the Building Inspector is authorized by the Director to issue a building permit provided the Building Inspector determines the building plans are in compliance with Building Code. Residential and non-residential subdivision must be approved by the Jasper Planning and Zoning Commission. Compliance includes the submittal and approval of the preliminary and final plat.
