The Jasper Civil Service Board will give a written exam for the position of HEAVY EQUIPMENT MECHANIC on Thursday, August 25, 2011 at 1:00 p.m.

To qualify for the above position applicant must be a citizen of the United States and present a copy of the following documents at the time of making application:

1. Alabama driver’s license (CDL Class B)
2. Social security card
3. Birth certificate
4. High school diploma/GED
5. Three (3) current letters of recommendation (non-family)

Qualifications include: Must understand wiring schematics and hydraulic functions; must be able to trouble shoot air and hydraulic brakes and make needed repairs; must be able to read a micrometer (inside and outside) and read a caliper and rule accurately; must be able to evacuate A/C systems, repair, leak test & recharge; must be able to diagnose diesel and gas engine problems and make repairs; must be able to operate equipment enough to diagnose and make repairs; must have knowledge of light duty cutting and welding repairs, being able to make repairs at the shop and on road repair; must be able to trouble shoot accurately and make repairs accordingly, not just replacing parts.

Prior to entering employment, the successful applicant will be required to submit to a drug/alcohol test.
Position may require the ability to work different shifts, weekends and holidays.
