Proclamations for the Month of April

City of Jasper Proclamation

April 5, 2022 - At today’s council meeting Mayor O’Mary, with the support of the city council, proclaimed the month of April as Fair Housing Month in Jasper and Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Fair Housing Act prohibits housing discrimination because of race, color, religion, national origin, sex, disability, and family status. Child Abuse Prevention Month in Jasper supports the Alabama Department of Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention and the Children’s Trust Fund. The month of April is not only a time to raise awareness of child abuse, neglect, and its prevention, but to also recognize the many people who work to support children and strengthen families. Johnny Sudberry M.Div., the Executive Director of The Children's Advocacy Center of Walker County, was present to receive the proclamation. The Children's Advocacy Center is a local non-profit whose mission is to reduce the trauma of child maltreatment by providing a child-oriented environment for the coordination, multidisciplinary investigation, intervention, and treatment of child abuse and neglect victims in Walker County.
