
Josh Gates serves as the 20th Mayor of Jasper, Alabama, where he leads with a focus on collaboration, innovation, and long-term growth for the city. Mayor Gates is committed to building on Jasper’s momentum by strengthening infrastructure, attracting investment, and creating opportunities for families and businesses to thrive.
Before being elected mayor, Gates represented District 3 on the Jasper City Council and played an active role in local economic development and civic initiatives. His professional background includes co-founding and serving as CEO of Saturday Down South, a nationally recognized digital media company, which he sold in 2021. He now invests in and advises emerging businesses across various industries.
An Army veteran, Gates served as an Airborne Ranger and later worked in international security operations. He earned his degree in Political Science from the University of South Alabama and remains passionate about leadership, community service, and lifelong learning.
Gates has served as President of Jasper Main Street and on the Jasper Industrial Development Board, the Synovus Bank Advisory Board, and the Walker Area Community Foundation’s Grant Review Committee. In May 2024, he became the third Alabamian to summit Mount Everest, an achievement that reflects his belief in preparation, teamwork, and perseverance.
Josh and his wife, Dr. Talia Gates, a local physician, are active members of Jasper’s First Baptist Church. They have two sons, Kye and Zane.
