April 4, 2023 - APRIL IS CHILD ABUSE PREVENTION MONTH IN JASPER.
At this morning's council meeting Mayor O’Mary, with the support of the city council, proclaimed the month of April as Child Abuse Prevention Month in Jasper in support of the Alabama Department of Child Abuse & Neglect Prevention and the Children’s Trust Fund.
Johnny Sudberry M.Div., the Executive Director of The Children's Advocacy Center of Walker County, was present to receive the proclamation. The Children's Advocacy Center is a local non-profit whose mission is to reduce the trauma of child maltreatment by providing a child-oriented environment for the coordination, multidisciplinary investigation, intervention, and treatment of child abuse and neglect victims in Walker County. This year, they have displayed 1,400 pinwheels in their yard at the Advocacy Center to represent and honor the 1,400 children they have interviewed at the center in the past 10 years.
