Amended Sales Tax Ordinance

City of Jasper Council Chambers

On November 9, 2021, an amendment to the city’s sales tax Ordinance was introduced at the Jasper City Council meeting to increase the sales tax rate. At the next regular meeting, on November 16, 2021, the City Council approved an amendment to the sales tax Ordinance to increase the general sales tax rate from three percent (3%) to three and one-half percent (3.5%). The auto and machinery sales tax rate will increase from three-quarters of one percent (.75%) to seven-eighths of one percent (.875%). This rate increase is to provide a portion of funding for a sports complex, Sherer Auditorium renovations, paving, and support for economic development; all a part of Mayor O’Mary’s Four-Point Plan. This sales tax increase within Jasper city limits will be effective February 1, 2022, and is expected to remain in effect for approximately 8 ½ to 9 ½ years. Businesses will be notified by mail or electronically within the next 30 days.
