Governor Ivey Awards Federal Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program Grant to Jasper
October 13, 2022 - Mayor O’Mary recently received a letter from Gov. Kay Ivey congratulating the City of Jasper for being awarded federal funds in the amount of $529,727.00 for downtown streetscape improvements along 19th Street and SR-69 – Phase VI.
Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside Program (TAP) funds are awarded each year by ALDOT after a competitive selection process to qualified applicants to construct new transportation alternatives or to enhance existing infrastructure for non-drivers. Examples of eligible projects are sidewalks, pedestrian/bike trails, lighting, and traffic calming techniques.
Jasper's TAP Phase VI project will construct sidewalks and install decorative lighting on 19th Street from the railroad tracks to Elliott Blvd. New sidewalks will also be installed on AL Highway 69 from the 20th Street/Elliott Boulevard intersection to the Jasper Housing Authority. Work on this project is expected to begin in the spring or summer of 2023.
