JPD K-9, Ikon, Retires

Ikon

September 20, 2022 - This morning the Jasper City Council resolved that Jasper Police Department K-9, Ikon, be officially retired from his tour of duty and be donated to his handler Jasper Police Lieutenant Mitchell Jones to provide Ikon with all of his medical and daily needs for the remainder of his life. Thank you for your service to the city of Jasper, Ikon! 

The Resolution reads:

WHEREAS, Ikon, a City of Jasper Police K-9 drug dog, has served the City of Jasper and other agencies in Walker County since 2014 in assisting police officers in numerous searches for narcotics which has resulted in removing many dealers and narcotics off the streets of the City of Jasper; and

WHEREAS, Ikon has worked side by side with Jasper Police Officer, Lieutenant Mitchell Jones, for the past eight years with Lt. Jones caring for Ikon around the clock at his home; and

WHEREAS, Ikon, is experiencing some age-related health issues, including problems with his vision; and

WHEREAS, Lt. Jones has requested that Ikon be retired of his service and able to live his remaining years at home with him and his family.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Jasper, Alabama that Ikon be officially retired from his tour of duty and be donated to his handler, Lt. Mitchell Jones, who has requested to provide Ikon with all of his medical and daily needs for the remainder of his life.
